This was a real fun project. I started with a real clean Type 1 bug, with the vision of a "hot rod look".
I stripped it down, did the body work, cut a hole in the roof and added the sliding ragtop.
Once ready for paint, or primer if you will. I shot it in PPG DP90 black primer. I knew I wanted flames, but after a day of laying out flames I just didn't like the look of the entire frontend a different color, so I layed them out arond the headlights, and down the side. It looked real cool at night with the amber bulbs in the parklight and the whole headlight bucket glowing orange!
You bug people will notice all the "old" oval window items. I used the low mount front blinkers, oval taillights, oval license plate light, and the small blade bumpers with over rides.
To finish it off, I lowered the front and rear, and added a set of Empi 5 spokes.
This HOT VW now lives in Florida.
